I developed my interest in colon and rectal surgery after significant experiences in undergraduate, medical school, and residency where I was exposed to countless people with a myriad of health problems. During those experiences I noted a pattern that often times people would delay and defer care regarding societally sensitive issues which included problems of the colon, rectum, and anus. In addition, there was a shortage of physicians that cared for this specific group of problems which made it more difficult to find care when needed.

In part because of these experiences I elected not only to become a physician but I also pursued a Masters in Public Health to expand my ability to look at health on a population level. I pursued additional experiences in specialty care during medical school including long term colorectal care for HIV+ individuals in the Ft. Lauderdale community. These experiences plus countless others in surgical residency in Hawaii drove me to pursue additional training in Colorectal surgery at the Grant Medical Center in Columbus, OH which is the core safety net hospital for the city. I returned to Hawaii with the goal of providing compassionate and comprehensive care for colon, rectal, and anal problems.
