Our Services
As a physician and colorectal surgeon I've constantly developed and advanced my medical skills and techniques. I am highly trained and experienced to offer several services and specialized procedures including treatments for the following:
Colon Cancer Screening
New guidelines suggest screening for colon cancer should start at age 45 for average risk individuals. Approximately 1 in 20 people will develop colorectal cancer in their lifetime and it remains the second highest cause of cancer related deaths in the US.
Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgery
Surgical technology has progressed to allow many procedures to be done through “small cuts” using either a small camera or a surgical robot to assist with the procedure. Dr Rao is trained in the use of the newest robotic and laparoscopic technology for appropriate patients.
Cancer of the Colon and Rectum
Approximately 1 in 20 people in the US will develop cancer of the colon or rectum. Appropriate diagnosis, staging, and treatment by a specialist is paramount in improving survival and quality of life.
Colonoscopy
The primary method of screening for colon cancer, a colonoscopy involves sedation and direct visualization of the entire colon. Some early cancers and precancers can be removed during the procedure. This can also be part of the workup of abdominal pain and change in bowels.
Diverticular Disease
Caused be a weakness in the colon wall this can present either as bleeding from the colon or repeated painful attacks. While usually patients can recover without surgery under some circumstances surgery may be a right choice.

Hemorrhoids
Causing itching, bleeding, and anal discomfort hemorrhoids cause significant quality of life issues for many people. Expert consultation can discuss lifestyle, medical, and surgical treatments in order to treat your hemorrhoids
Anal Pain & Fissure
Anal Pain can have many causes. A common cause of this is anal fissure. An office exam by an expert can often diagnose the cause and suggest and appropriate treatment plan. We offer a wide range of treatments including anal botox.
Fecal Incontinence
The inability to hold in gas and/or stool can considerably worsen quality of life. Dietary, lifestyle, and potentially surgical treatment are all options in the management of this condition.

Rectal Prolapse
Over time the pelvic floor muscles can weaken and the last part of the colon (the rectum) can come out of the anus. This can be corrected from either the abdomen or the perineum based on patient factors and preference
Cancer of the Anus
While overall rare, certain people have an increased risk of developing anal cancer. Patients at risk benefit from routine screening by an expert.

Constipation
While some constipation can be due to the food and drinks you eat it can also be caused by slow colonic transit or lack of pelvic floor coordination. A personalized treatment plan can be developed after evaluation and workup.
Anal Condyloma/Warts/Dysplasia
Related to the virus HPV, condyloma can be painful and bothersome. Dr Rao will work with you to find the ideal treatment whether medical or surgical ablation.
