What is a Colon and Rectal Surgeon?
A colon and rectal surgeon is a surgeon that has been trained in an American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery approved program after completing training in general surgery. These physicians are considered the “Expert” in any disorders of the Colon, Rectum, or Anus.

Will Dr. Rao take my insurance?
Most insurances are accepted but some require a referral from your primary provider. Additionally, Dr. Rao's partners may accept insurances he does not. Please contact the office to discuss your situation.

How soon can I get an appointment to be seen?
Generally within two weeks although if your issue is more urgent, Dr. Rao can often accommodate patients the same or next day. Please call the office to discuss.

Prior studies/tests
Insurance and photo ID

What days does Dr. Rao see patients? Do surgery? Do colonoscopy?
Dr Rao sees patients Monday through Friday between 8AM to 3PM when not in surgery. Surgical and Endoscopic procedures are at the discretion of the facility at which the procedure is being performed but does include Saturday times.

What if I need more medications?
If you receive medications from Dr. Rao and you are near to running out it is important to contact the office during regular business hours. For your safety prescriptions are only filled during hours in which coordination of care can occur.

What if I have an urgent question after surgery?
During business hours you may call the office. If after hours you may contact Dr. Rao through the Physicians Exchange (524-2575) for emergencies, otherwise please contact the office the following morning.
